A tweet related to the Game Awards has made Elden Ring DLC a topic of conversation, but not in the way that fans might expect. Yes, many players are hoping that this is the DLC announcement for the acclaimed FromSoftware title, but alas, it is not.

Even though FromSoftware has never even hinted at or officially stated that Elden Ring would get DLC, fans still expect it. Like Bloodborne’s Old Hunters, most of FromSoftware’s Soulsborne games have downloadable content, and what makes this so exciting is the way in which the developer can introduce new lore and/or expand upon it while also providing players with a new challenge. Certainly, FromSoftware downloadable content is typically more difficult than the base game, so a more challenging boss than Malenia may be on the horizon, but not just yet.

Answer this fill-in-the-blank question about a world premiere you hope to see at the Game Awards: A large number of people are interested in this, so much so that the phrase “Elden Ring DLC” has become a social media trend. Although that’s not exactly the gold standard, it does show how much interest there is among FromSoft’s fanbase for a sequel that takes place in The Lands Between. You couldn’t pick a better venue to make this announcement than at The Game Awards.

It was at Microsoft’s E3 2019 Xbox conference that Elden Ring was first shown off, having previously skipped many shows. It’s possible it could happen in this case as well, but what’s obvious is that Elden Ring is worthy of a major spotlight. Considering that the next major event stage is months away after The Game Awards, it makes sense to make the announcement of any upcoming DLC at the showcase. After all, FromSoftware downloadable content usually arrives seven to eight months after the main game, though Elden Ring’s size may complicate things here.

For instance, the game has already passed that window, but rumours that FromSoftware is hard at work on Elden Ring DLC suggest that an announcement could come soon, even if it’s a bit further out than past patterns would indicate. No one outside of FromSoftware has any idea what this could be, but there are a lot of possibilities, such as developing Miquella’s backstory, adding new PVP features like colosseums, exploring Godfrey’s backstory, or answering long-standing questions about the Gloam-Eyed Queen.
