An admirer of Elden Ring has completed an incredible portrait of Blaidd, the half-wolf, half-man guardian of Ranni the Witch. The accent and tragic fate that befall Blaidd in the Elden Ring make him a beloved character.

While exploring the Lands Between, Tarnished is likely to meet one of the first non-player characters (NPCs), named Blaidd. Like most FromSoftware games, getting the chance to meet Blaidd for the first time involves a convoluted chain of events, including buying the Finger Snap gesture from Merchant Kale. When used near the ruins in Mistwood, the character will jump down from his perch, but instead of attacking, Blaidd will speak to them in a Welsh accent. Following this, Blaidd fights alongside Tarnished, participates in the Radahn Festival with him, and helps locate Nokron, the Eternal City, before events take a tragic turn.

An anonymous artist on Reddit goes to great artistic lengths to pay tribute to Blaidd with this drawing. It’s a profile shot of the half-wolf, Royal Greatsword drawn, as he appears to be in the midst of battle. Blaidd’s mouth is agape as whatever conflict he’s in continues, and a streak of blood has appeared on the page from where it came, apparently caused by the bloodstained weapon. His cloak and the exposed parts of his armour have been faithfully rendered, and the use of fur in a drawing is particularly impressive.

The Royal Greatsword that Blaidd wields is a Colossal Sword, the largest type of sword in Elden Ring. Blaidd gets it when he goes insane and spawns at the base of Ranni’s Rise. Pieces of lore gleaned from item descriptions and offhand comments by NPCs suggest that Blaidd was presented to Ranni as a gift from the Two Fingers. These Fingers’ gifts were thought to betray their masters if they dared act against the Greater Will, but as Iji’s dialogue and the Royal Greatsword’s description show, Blaidd remained loyal even after Ranni betrayed the Fingers.

When Ranni leaves the Lands Between, Blaidd loses his only connection to the real world and logic. Insanity, not enmity, drives him to kill the Black Knife assassins who were obviously waiting for an opportunity to kill his master. Since Elden Ring’s debut, the demigod and her devoted companion Ranni have been depicted in countless works of art, from paintings to digital creations.
