Nearly 30,000 reports have been sent to Downdetector, indicating a significant increase. There have been reports of users saying that their communications are not being sent. The software doesn’t indicate when messages have been sent, even after they have been sent and received. Most major cities seem to be affected by outages, with Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Lucknow all showing up on the Downdetector live outage map.

Even WhatsApp’s calling function has had users complaining of problems. The programme is stuck in the “calling” phase and won’t go to the “ringing” phase. In October of last year, WhatsApp too had a similar outage. Users of WhatsApp are taking to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction with the service. This might be one of the worst instances for the IM app given the widespread nature of the outage.
