For those who want a pixelated serving of justice, some dedicated modders are working on a complete translation of Doom 2 into a Batman game. In the wake of Kevin Conroy’s untimely passing, the world has lost one of the most recognisable voices associated with Batman. While the Batman series may not be as popular as it once was, his legacy will live on. The entertainment industry is about to burst at the seams with Gotham City stories, what with all the movies and animated series based on video games.

When it comes to first-person shooters, few games can compare to the original Doom, which essentially defined the genre and continues to serve as an inspiration for many other games to this day. Since the series’ origins lie in the mid-1990s, it stands to reason that the early releases have aged in tandem with the development of video games generally. The games’ continued success, however, may be attributed in no little part to the many fan-created modifications that keep them relevant long after their original release.

PCGamer has discovered that a modding team going by the name of Team RayCast is working on a complete conversion mod for Doom 2 dubbed “Rogue City,” in which players assume the character of Batman. There may not be a release date just yet, but a video gives gamers an idea of what to anticipate by showcasing The Dark Knight in action around Gotham City. It seems that several of Batman’s most infamous foes, such as Mr. Freeze, Harley Quinn, and The Joker, will make appearances in this update. Some scenes even suggest that it could be able to navigate the city with the Batmobile. In sum, it seems like a fun mod for anyone who enjoy Batman and old versions of Doom.

Players have been modifying Doom since since it was released. Some have added an a new plot and reworked the visuals, thereby transforming the game into a new entity. One mod even combines classic and cutting-edge aesthetics by including assets from Doom Eternal. All the games still have that unique Doom feel to them.

Due in large part to the first Doom releases, creator id Software gained instant notoriety and eventually became one of the largest firms in the business. Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake are all seminal games that helped establish the first-person shooter subgenre; the modding community is responsible for keeping them relevant.
