Since Apple (AAPL.O) is having difficulties with manufacturing snafus in China, many Black Friday customers who were hoping to purchase the company’s newest high-end phones left empty-handed.

Sally Gannon and her son, Michael, were among many who went to an Apple shop in Bethesda but were disappointed to learn that they were out of iPhone Pros.

Just as how Abisha Luitel want to purchase an iPhone 14 Pro for her cousin, who is now 21, we find that she is also a member of Generation Z. However, the Apple shop that she went to was sold out. As an alternative, she went with a version from the past and bought a 12.

On Black Friday, “iPhone shortages were front and centre across multiple shops, Apple Stores, and online platforms,” Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said in a note.

We estimate many Apple Stores already have iPhone 14 Pro shortages depending on model, colour, or storage of up to 25%-30% below usual going into a typical December, which is not a good indicator heading into the Christmas season for Cupertino, he added.

According to the source, the newest iPhone 14 Pro and other high-end Apple devices are manufactured at Foxconn’s facility in China.

The facility is the biggest Apple iPhone manufacturing in the world, and it is struggling with tight COVID-19 regulations, which have generated anger among employees and delayed productivity in the run-up to the Christmas and Lunar New Year holidays in January.

Apple employees in a mall in Bethesda, Maryland, reported having nearly no supply of the 14 Pro and the 14 Pro Max. A second employee at a Raleigh, North Carolina shop said that supplies of iPhone 14s were limited and that the iPhone 14 Plus was unavailable.

Sally Gannon said that she and her son were considering buying an iPhone online. A representative at the Apple shop, she said, had promised delivery of the requested phone on December 28.

Earlier this week, Best Buy, a major retailer in the United States, issued a warning that its shops will be experiencing shortages of high-end iPhones during the Christmas shopping season. Continue Reading

While last year’s Black Friday saw 10 million iPhones sold, Wedbush’s Ives predicts that this year’s sales will be closer to 8 million iPhones owing to supply issues.

The new iPhone 14 Pro has wait periods of up to 40 days on Apple’s website, and those numbers are expected to rise in the coming weeks as more people look for iPhone Pros to buy as holiday presents.
