Half-Life Alyx: Levitation Mod Officially Launches

Two years of development went into Half-Life: Alyx LEVITATION. The new content provided by the mod picks up from where the original game’s story left off.

The latest Half-Life game is Half-Life: Alyx, which takes place before the events of Half-Life 2. Despite the long wait for Half-Life 3, critics and fans alike praised the game for successfully transitioning to virtual reality.

The LEVITATION team, comprised of FMPONE and CoreyLaddo, have developed a new campaign for the Half-Life: Alyx game mod called LEVITATION, which should keep players busy for anywhere from three to five hours. Even though the first trailer for the mod appeared in April, it had been in the works for quite some time. YouTube star CoreyLaddo, better known as S2FM G-Man, said that the group’s goal was to make “something comparable in quality to Valve’s Half-Life: Alyx.” To celebrate the launch of the modification, a new trailer was released, which showcased some in-game action.

You’ll take control of Alyx Vance once more in Half-Life Alyx: LEVITATION as she investigates a strange occurrence in City 17, Sector X. Alyx goes on her own investigation after hearing reports of a floating building and the disappearance of two members of the resistance; judging by the mod’s trailer, she will not have an easy time of it. Alyx will have to battle the Combine on her own, relying only on her wits, her equipment, and Russell for support. Anyone who has the base game can download the mod from the Steam Workshop at no cost.

Anyone who is even remotely interested in Half-Life should definitely check out Alyx right now. Players will still need a VR headset to enjoy the game, which is currently available on Steam. Although the Valve Index and its controllers were designed for the VR experience, players are free to use any PC-compatible headset, including the Meta Quest 2.

There is an almost inconceivable amount of fan art, mods, and tributes to Valve’s games that have been made by the community over the years. When it comes to fan-made additions to their games, such as the Half-Life 2 VR conversion mod that came out earlier in 2022, Valve is unusually receptive. Despite a long hiatus before Alyx was released, it’s clear that fans of the series are still eager for more of Gordon Freeman’s exploits. Whether or not Valve decides to publish new stories set in the Half-Life universe remains to be seen, but fans working on projects like LEVITATION will be there to provide new content if and when Valve decides not to.
