Dying Elden Ring Player Watches Their Mimic Get Revenge
A member of the Elden Ring was killed by a Draconic Tree Sentinel, but their remaining Mimic Tear managed to pull off a miraculous comeback and win the game. The entrance to Leyndell, Royal Capital of Elden Ring, is guarded by a knight in shining armour riding a fire-breathing steed, which has a reputation for surprising and killing unwary Tarnished.

The Spirit Ashes, summoned NPCs who act as companions during combat, have been the primary source of debate surrounding Elden Ring, developed by FromSoftware. These phantom allies often take the form of enemies encountered in the Lands Between, though there are a few legendary forms that represent historical figures. Spirit Ashes has split fans of FromSoftware’s latest punishing release, and for good reason: some feel the NPC aids cheapen boss encounters, which are meant to be difficult, interesting, and complex, while others see them as a welcome form of accessibility and a compelling addition to the game.
ConstantWolverine1 posted a video to Reddit showing the player finishing a recent retreat and drinking from their Flask of Crimson Tears before rushing back towards the Draconic Tree Sentinel. After taking more damage from a mounted attack, the boss’s health bar is now dangerously close to zero, and he or she needs only a few more hits to be defeated. But as Torrent turns, a huge swing infused with red lightning is pulled up from the ground, unceremoniously knocking the player off his horse.
After the Tarnished are killed by the Tree Sentinel’s overhead attack, they have no time to roll to safety. When it seems like all hope is lost and the death animation begins, the player’s last remaining Mimic Tear charges in and deals the killing blow, allowing them to enter Leyndell, the Royal Capital. Thankfully, “Enemy Felled” appears on the screen before the player is forced to respawn, confirming the victory.
The Mimic Tear Spirit Ash was criticised for his seemingly nonchalant victory; he simply strolled in from the background and defeated his opponent with a single, light attack, and the comments made light of his unassuming style. Still others compared the bittersweet victory to their own experiences in cooperative play, where the death of the host would result in a mad dash to kill the boss before the game could be reset. Further, many have said that Elden Ring’s trusted steed Torrent is not ideal for battle, though his speed is extremely useful against dragons.
