The release date for Dead Island 2 has been pushed back as the development team works to polish the game before its release. Dead Island 2 has been in development purgatory for a long time. It’s been kicked about from studio to studio for the better part of a decade. Due to their commitment to Dying Light, Techland handed the sequel’s development onto Yager Development, the studio behind Spec Ops: The Line. Dambuster Studios, an in-house development company established up by publishers Deep Silver, took up production of Dead Island 2 after Sumo Digital, who co-developed the Hitman reboot and Hitman 2, took over development of the game.

Because of these factors, it is not shocking that the sequel has been delayed. The game has been pushed back from its initial release date of February 3, 2023 to April 28, 2023, according to a tweet from the official Dead Island 2 Twitter account. The development team expresses its regret at having to delay the release date in an accompanying graphic, but tells followers that they are “on the last straight now.” Following this, the image’s caption states that the studio will invest significant effort into ensuring that the final product is a game of which “everyone involved” can be “proud to premiere.”

Many people have been anticipating the release of Dead Island 2 ever since its humorous trailer, which was such a sharp contrast to the heartbreaking video for the first game, was released. The disappointment of the delay is understandable, but 12 weeks is nothing compared to the 10 years that have passed since the game was first revealed.

For a game that wasn’t even close to being the greatest zombie game, it’s remarkable that so many people are looking forward to the sequel. An dramatic trailer helped get people excited, and it was released when zombie shooters were all the rage, but the finished product was received with tepid appreciation at best. Nonetheless, it’s clear that the prospect of a sequel has piqued many fans’ interest.
