Recent leaks have suggested that developer Firaxis is creating more serious content than simply a bevvy of new leaders to pick from in Sid Meier’s Civilization 6’s upcoming DLC packs for the Leader Pass, and the newest leak lends credence to this possibility. New Frontier Pass is the most recent official expansion pack for Civ 6, which was released in 2016.

Some may believe that a sequel to Civilization 6 is long overdue at this time, but it seems like Firaxis still has some ambitions for the series before it’s completely wrapped up. And more specifically, a new piece of artwork showing four brand new leaders, including Abraham Lincoln, has been added to the game’s mobile website. This data confirms a separate leak from the Chinese news site Billibilli that appeared before the photograph was shared.

Although confirmation of Civilization 6’s Leader Pass has not been made in any official capacity, a growing body of evidence indicates development of this DLC is well under way. Players on the CivFanatics forum have found the original Billibilli leak and translated it, demonstrating that it contains a lot of crucial information that, although maybe incorrect, definitely rings accurate. The Billibilli material was translated by user xxhe on CivFantatics, who claims that Leader Pass content will be published over the course of six months, likely beginning in the middle of November 2022. Like the New Frontier Pass, these downloadable content packs (DLCs) will include new leaders, different situations, and maybe even new game types.

Though this leak should be taken with a grain of salt, it does seem plausible on the whole. All signs point to the Leader Pass being Firaxis’ effort to make up for the fact that, although including some renowned leaders, Civilization 6 has always had a few noticeable absences. The leaders shown in the advertisement, including Zhu Di and Wu Zetian, may not be the only ones participating.

It’s worth noting that there’s a new, quite formidable alternative to Civilization 6 on the market. In comparison to Firaxis’ civilization-building game, Paradox Interactive’s Victoria 3 already has a content update schedule and many of its own features.

Everything suggests that the next Civ game is quite a ways off, and the Leader Pass might be Firaxis’ effort to keep Civilization 6 in the spotlight for as long as possible, despite the game’s undeniable success. It goes without saying that many fans want Firaxis to take things to the next level, and many feel that Civilization 7 should absorb lessons from Civ 6.
