The first RPG in the series, The Witcher, is being completely remade, according to CD Projekt Red.

Using the same toolkit as The Witcher 4 and the other instalments of the technically-still-untitled forthcoming Witcher trilogy, The Witcher Remake is being created on Unreal Engine 5.

The project, formerly known as Project Canis Majoris, was first introduced by CDPR as a “story-driven RPG” set in the Witcher universe and created by an as-yet-unidentified external studio.

The Polish-based external studio is named Fool’s Theory, and its sole original title is the stealth action-RPG Seven: The Days Long Gone. However, RPG enthusiasts are undoubtedly familiar with some of the titles Fool’s Theory has assisted in the development of, such as Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2. Additionally, they worked on Outriders.

According to a press release, Fool’s Theory “employs a number of professional devs who previously worked on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.” On the project, CD Projekt is “giving complete artistic oversight.”

According to CDPR studio president Adam Badowski, Fool’s Theory “knows the original material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to produce fantastic and ambitious games.” The wait will be worthwhile, even though it will take some time until we’re able to publish more information and results from the game.
