Borderlands 3 Could Be Coming to the Nintendo Switch
Word on the street is that Borderlands 3 is in development for Nintendo Switch. Some players will be thrilled by this development, but it’s not the first time the possibility of a port of Borderlands 3 has been brought up.

Borderlands 3 Could Be Coming to the Nintendo Switch
Borderlands 3 on the Nintendo Switch wouldn’t be the first in the series. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Borderlands 2 made their way to Nintendo waters before in a slightly altered Borderlands Legendary Collection. That collection, though it could be purchased on cartridge, required a sizable download and installation, as is common with larger games ported to Switch by publishers hoping to avoid paying the premium for larger cartridges.
A rating from PEGI (Europe’s release board, notorious for leaking the Blizzard Arcade Collection) has reignited rumors. Borderlands 3: Director’s Cut and Designer’s Cut, as well as the standalone expansion packs Borderlands: Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck, Borderlands 3: Bounty of Blood, Borderlands 3: Guns, Love, and Tentacles, and Borderlands 3: Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, all briefly mentioned a Nintendo Switch version today.
It was speculated that Borderlands 3 would launch for Nintendo Switch in April 2021, when a PEGI rating notation suggested the game would be available. After being accidentally published, April’s listing was removed from PEGI’s database. It was stated at the time by a 2K Games representative that the game was not platform exclusive. A Nintendo Switch version with a December 1, 2022 release date was mentioned today, but that date has since been removed.
It is currently unknown whether Borderlands 3 would be released physically and as a download, or if it would instead arrive as a Cloud-only version to take advantage of more powerful hardware, like Hitman 3 and the Kingdom Hearts games before it. In a country like Japan, where consistent internet access is more common, cloud-based versions have become increasingly popular. As 2K Games learned with the underwhelming performance of Borderlands 3 on Stadia, publishers occasionally try to release games in spite of the poor infrastructure across much of North America. Capcom will also stream Resident Evil Village and other games in the series to Switch.
It would be great to see another instalment in a beloved franchise arrive on Nintendo’s platform and make online play affordable for those who might not have the budget for hardware with more horsepower, but Borderlands 3 benefits from robust hardware and online play, neither of which are among the Switch’s core strengths. Even if talk of Borderlands 3 on Switch has been floating around for a while, it’s never too late for it to actually happen. It benefits everyone to have more choices.
